Course Description

The Benjamin Guard Low-Light Threat Identification and Engagement Course is designed to provide law enforcement officers with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely and effectively operate firearms in low-light and reduced-light environments. Law enforcement encounters frequently occur during hours of darkness or in limited visibility conditions. Officers must be capable of identifying potential threats, managing illumination, and engaging threats while maintaining situational awareness and officer safety.
This course places emphasis on threat identification, responsible engagement, and effective use of illumination tools while operating in reduced-light environments.
In addition to developing technical skills, this course is designed to evaluate an officer’s duty gear configuration and equipment setup. Through structured drills and live-fire exercises, officers will have the opportunity to test their current equipment—including handheld lights, weapon-mounted lights, holsters, and supporting gear—in realistic low-light conditions. This evaluation process allows officers to identify equipment limitations, inefficiencies, or potential improvements, while reinforcing gear configurations that support safe and effective performance. The course is structured to build upon each officer’s existing capabilities, strengthening fundamental skills while introducing techniques that improve performance, accountability, and decision-making under reduced-light conditions.

Instruction includes:

  • Proper use of handheld and weapon-mounted lighting systems
  • Light discipline and illumination management
  • Firearm manipulation in reduced visibilityTactical movement and use of cover
  • Threat identification prior to engagement
  • Equipment evaluation and performance considerations
  • Environmental lighting and photonic barriers

By the conclusion of this course, officers will have a better understanding of how their equipment, techniques, and decision-making processes perform under low-light conditions,
allowing them to make informed adjustments that enhance both safety and operational effectiveness.
