Course Overview

The TTPOA and the Corpus Christi SWAT Team will be hosting a 60 hr/6 day Basic Law Enforcement Sniper Certification Course November 18th thru 22ndin Corpus Christi, Texas.  

The course begins at 8am November 18th.  Location will be emailed to students prior to the class. Cost of the course includes lodging on the training site for up to 12 students.  Please contact to arrange lodging and confirmation.   

Overall Course Description

This course introduces LE Snipers to the basics of precision marksmanship and gives the student the skills they need to deploy as a LE Sniper.  Students will also work with each other as a spotter/sniper and learn how to operate as a sniper team. At the end of the course, the student will demonstrate proficiency with their precision rifle and be able to exhibit general knowledge of material as it pertains to LE precision marksmanship. The student can also expect to learn several basic and advanced skills including:

  • How to properly fit the rifle to the shooter
  • Long distance shooting (Up to 500 yards)
  • Nomenclature of the rifle
  • Data book management, 
  • Legal applications and issues
  • Stress shooting
  • Equipment Selection
  • Basic and Advanced Positional Shooting
  • Ballistics
  • Urban and Vehicle Hides
  • Fieldcraft and Stalking
  • Known vs Unknown Distance

THIS IS A CERTIFICATION COURSE.  THE STUDENT WILL HAVE A WRITEN AND PERFORMANCE TEST AT THE END OF THE COURSE.

Prerequisites

Attendees must be certified peace officers, federal agents, or active military personnel in good standing with their agency. Attendees must be able to provide valid agency credentials on the first day of class. This course is designed for personnel currently attached to a SWAT team or other tactical unit. Course will entail physical activity as part of the drills so students should be in above-average physical condition. There is no PT Test for the course but the students are expect to be in good physical condition to complete the course and shooting qualifications.

Required equipment

  • All normal tactical clothing/deployment gear
  • Scoped rifle (bolt-action or semi-automatic) capable of shooting a repeatable one inch or better group at 100 yards
  • 600 rounds of match-grade ammunition
  • Bipod
  • Sling
  • Shooting mat and bag
  • Backpack
  • Log/data book
  • Cleaning kit
  • Ear and Eye Protection
  • Camouflage clothing (A Ghillie suit is recommended but not required)
