     The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a 5 day, 50 hour, advanced sniper course February 22-26, 2027 in the Fort Worth area. The course will build upon the fundamentals taught in basic sniper school and focus on advanced techniques relevant to everyday sniper deployments.

     This course is led by TCSO Sniper Team Leader Barrett Travis along with other cadre from the DFW area. These instructors bring nearly 50 years of combined experience from law enforcement, military, and competitive shooting to the table. This course will be heavily focused on multiple repetitions in every area to ensure students get maximum exposure to every block of instruction. This is a certification course that will involve a skills assessment and written exam at the end of the week. This course is designed to test the students’ physical and mental capabilities and will require them to not only be doers, but thinkers also.

 

Topics Covered:

     This course will expose students to areas such as intermediate barriers, moving targets, high angle shooting, improvised/unconventional shooting positions, known and unknown long distance shooting, low light shooting, and various types of hide construction including a stalking exercise.

 

Minimum requirements for the course:

 

  • Active member of a LE SWAT team
  • Basic law enforcement sniper certification  
  • Deployable as a sniper on a part time or full time SWAT team for at least one year
  • All requirements will be verified prior to class with the agency 

 

Ammunition:

600 rounds (minimum) of match grade duty ammunition

20 Barrier rounds 

NOTE: No armor piercing or frangible ammunition.  No large caliber (.338 or .50)

 

Required Gear:

Precision rifle capable of 1 MOA or better accuracy (no exceptions)

Precision optic with a minimum of 10x magnification

Bipod capable of canting left and right

Adjustable rifle sling

Rear support bag

Night vision for rifle scope (we will have some that we can loan but not many)

Gas Mask

Tripod

Cleaning equipment 

All callout gear

Sniper pack or drag bag

Individual camouflage (veils, hoods, covers, ghillie)

Note taking material

Hearing protection

Food and water (we will be pretty far from civilization)

 

Optional Gear (but probably a good idea to bring anyway):

Kestrel

Binoculars

Shooting mat

Laser rangefinder

Sunscreen/bug spray

Long sleeve uniform

Boonie hat

Small bag of rubber bands

 

NOTE: Each student will need to download “whatsapp” for group communication and info sharing.  You will be contacted via email the week prior to class with the invite so please make sure your email is up to date on your TTPOA profile. Each student needs to have at least a basic knowledge of ballistic software apps with their weapon system profile set up prior to class.  Hornady 4DOF or Geo ballistics is preferred. Each student needs to have DOPE confirmed out to at least 500 yards prior to the start of class.
