Course Description:

This 5 day (50 hr) course is designed to teach students how to become a competent, confident, and proficient firearms instructor. Being able to shoot is important for firearms instructors, but they must also know how to teach and convey to others how to shoot as well. This course will provide the knowledge needed for creating, implementing, and managing a comprehensive firearms program for real world applications. Upon completion students will not only have the skills needed to be a firearms instructor, but they will also learn how to continually improve their own skillset as shooters.

  • Firearms safety
  • Liability issues
  • Firearms instructor duties
  • Identifying, evaluating, and correcting common shooter problems
  • Fundamentals of shooting
  • How to design a course of fire that is practical and relevant to real world training
  • Firearms range operations

Prerequisites:

Students must have previously completed the TCOLE Basic Instructor Course (TCOLE #1014) prior to attending this.

Course Completion Requirements:

  • Students will be required to shoot and pass 2 qualifications (pistol/shotgun) on the morning of the first day of class with a minimum score of 90%. If a student is unable to pass either qualification at (2 attempts) then they will be dropped from the course immediately.
  • A comprehensive written exam will also be administered at the end of the class with a minimum passing score of 90%.
  • All teach back modules will include live fire demonstrations and will be graded overall as a pass/fail.

Required Equipment:

 *Prohibited for use: Blackhawk Serpa or any other trigger finger release holster**

  • Duty belt with semi-automatic handgun and at least 3 magazines
  • Duty shotgun (12 gauge)
  • AR-15 platform rifle with at least 3 magazines
  • Eye / ear protection
  • Black or red Sharpie
  • Notebook
  • Weapon maintenance / cleaning equipment

Ammunition Requirements:

 *Factory loaded ammunition only*

  • 1,000 rounds for duty semi-automatic pistol
  • 500 rounds for AR-15 platform rifle
  • 25 rounds of 12 gauge 9 pellet 00 buckshot
  • 25 rounds of 12 gauge rifled slug
