A comprehensive array of topics will be discussed, including improving problem-solving methods, analytical thinking, critical decision-making, and how our cognitive processes can be faulty. Overall instruction will aid students in leadership roles within their units and agencies. This class includes intensive academic and theoretical components of problem-solving techniques and critical decision-making for the team leader and swat commander—application to a real tactical operation and how these techniques relate to an operational environment will be presented.
Students should come prepared to learn new problem-solving techniques and how cognitive biases and heuristics affect our decision-making in high-stress decision-making operations. Students who have a growth mindset and are willing to solve contemporary issues affecting swat operations will enjoy this seminar.
This course is conducted entirely in the classroom. A laptop is helpful to the student but not mandatory.
