This course is only open to current LE Officers

This course will prepare students to implement tactical rappelling in operational and training environments for their team or organization. Technical skills learned in advanced rappelling will be reinforced, and students will learn how to integrate those skills into a larger system designed to mitigate risk in a high angle environment. Focus of this course will be on evaluating, designing, and supervising an operational or training rappel site with safety, efficiency, and mission accomplishment as foremost considerations.

Topics will include: Knots; Equipment; Physics of vertical rope work; Student and instructor safety; Operational considerations; Managing a rappel station; Anchor points and anchor systems; Planning for contingencies.

The course will be taught by experienced TTPOA cadre

  • Basic/Intermediate Rappel Course

  • BDU Style Uniform
  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Gloves
  • Figure 8
  • Sturdy Non Marking Shoes
  • Plate Carrier; Duty Belt with Holster
  • Carabiners (at least 4 locking carabiners- preferably larger “pear shaped” or HMS style)
  • Descending Device(s) Optional
  • Ascending Device(s) Optional
  • Accessory Cord (approx. 30 feet of 7mm or 8mm)
  • Pick off Strap (optional)
  • Webbing (optional— approx. 30 feet of 1” webbing for anchors)
  • Sewn Loop Slings (optional – nylon, 24” and 48” useful)
  • Rope Guards (optional)
  • Water/Snacks (some working lunches— cooler recommended)
