Texas has released a new version of its basic instructor course, Instructor Resource Guide. While there are improvements in the IRG, it is still short of what is necessary and accurate for developing quality training and quality law enforcement instructors.

This is not your average, cheap, basic instructor course. There is a lot of hands-on work.  This course covers everything in the legislative mandate established by TCOLE Rule 221.27, per Chapter 1701 of the Texas Occupations Code, but exceeds the basic requirements by providing actual case law on direct and vicarious liability, introduces instructional design principles for creating training that is defensible and follows established methods and processes, classroom command for creating and maintaining professional learning environments, and differentiates between learning theories and learning myths.

Participants will engage in discussions and hands-on activities focused on developing and delivering training aligned with instructional design best practices and research-based learning principles. By the end of the course, participants shall demonstrate their ability to create a complete lesson plan and facilitate a clear and performance objective-driven teaching exercise.
