Patrol Rifle/Patrol Shotgun Instructor Course (40hr 5 Day Course)
This course exceeds Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Patrol Rifle Instructor Course #3323 and gives an additional certification for Shotgun Instructor. (not a TCOLE required course however furthers the instructor in the skillset and lessens liability)
Responsibly training patrol officers on how to deploy rifles/shotguns is of the utmost importance to ensure they can do so while maintaining safety and accountability. This 40-hour course is designed to prepare instructors to efficiently teach patrol rifle/shotgun classes to patrol officers and recruits. This course will focus on instructor development and you will learn the techniques and skills necessary to conduct realistic training and qualifications that meet and exceed TCOLE standards for patrol rifle. This course is packed with hard learned instructor insights, tips, tricks and ways to make any of your instruction more efficient.

Utilization and benefits of a patrol rifle/shotgun
Policy development and course implementation, liability avoidance
Department equipment selection/approval
Proficiency testing, day/low light standards
Fundamentals of Marksmanship
Weapon manipulation
Zero distances, course and qualification design
Common shooter issues, positive reinforcement techniques
TCOLE qualification standards and requirements
Common malfunctions/issues
Selection of appropriate ammunition
Shotgun patterning
Less lethal/breaching considerations
Focus will be on the fundamental skills needed to consistently and efficiently instruct students on the patrol rifle/shotgun. We have packed this course with instructor information to help make you a better instructor. You will leave the course with a greater understanding and more advanced instructor skill level.
Course Prerequisites:
Have successfully completed the TCOLE Firearms Instructor Certification course
Have successfully completed the TCOLE Patrol Rifle Course
Equipment List
AR15 style Patrol Rifle (optics are highly advised. Red dots or LPVO)
Semi or pump action shotgun (ghost ring sights/optics advised)
Reliable pistol with holster
Range/duty belt
Min 3 Rifle/pistol Magazines, and ability to carry them (belt/vest or otherwise)
Note taking material (laptop/tablets recommended)
Thumb drive or external hard drive for course material.
Eye and ear protection
Appropriate Range clothing for forecasted weather
1000 rounds of rifle ammunition (no green tip or armor piercing)
100 slug 150 buck 100 birdshot for shotgun
150 rounds of pistol ammunition
Rifle/shotgun sling (preferably 2 point)
Rifle mounted weapon light at min (also recommend shotgun mounted light)
Handheld light
