Course Overview

Vehicle Containment Training (VCT) is a specialized law enforcement course designed to address high-risk encounters involving violent felony suspects while reducing the need for vehicle pursuits. The course focuses on the principles, decision-making considerations, and coordinated tactics associated with vehicle containment operations.

VCT may be considered in situations involving serious felony suspects, including aggravated robbery, murder, kidnapping, and felons in possession of firearms, when legally justified and consistent with applicable agency policy.

Participants will receive instruction in the tactical considerations, coordination, timing, and decision-making associated with vehicle containment operations. The course emphasizes the importance of officer safety, sound judgment, effective team communication, and reducing risks to the public.

The instructors bring extensive operational experience conducting vehicle containment operations involving violent suspects throughout the Houston area. Collectively, they have conducted approximately 200 VCT operations and have dedicated hundreds of hours to training and refining their expertise in this area. They have also provided instruction to multiple law enforcement departments, specialized teams, and agencies.

This course incorporates practical exercises and scenario-based training to reinforce classroom instruction and evaluate participants' ability to apply course concepts in realistic situations. The program also addresses available operational data and performance measures relevant to evaluating the effectiveness of vehicle containment tactics, including their potential impact on vehicle pursuits and officer-involved shootings.
