UC Officer and CI Rescue`

This course focuses on the rescue of an undercover officer or confidential
informant in multiple environments… “Rescue, Rescue, Rescue”

Course Synopsis: This 20 hour comprehensive course offers students of all experience levels an
opportunity to learn, improve, or sharpen their tradecraft of working undercover operations. We
emphasize the overall operation, planning and decision-making processes, and the rescue of the
undercover officer or confidential informant.
Day 1 we start with the classroom portion of the class. We discuss undercover operations
planning, mitigating threats prior to the operation, integrating tactical and investigative units, and
how the operation changes with a UC vs. a CI. The rest of Day 1 is spent introducing and
executing vetted vehicle-based tactics for the rescue of an undercover officer. We will cover
considerations and tactics for open-air environments and vehicles. You will be shown multiple
methods to overcome these realistic situations.
Day 2 we focus on the rescue of a confidential informant and specific operational considerations
and risk mitigation. Since we do not have the same benefits as utilizing an undercover officer, we
must overcome the lack of control that a confidential informant can bring to an operation. Day 2
focuses on utilizing vehicle immobilization techniques, i.e. Vehicle Assault tactic to place your
team in a better position to rescue the CI.
We strengthen these rescue tactics through force on force and scenario-based training throughout
the two days.
This course is a mix of classroom and practical application drills and scenarios, with most of the
class being spent conducting hands-on training. This course is for specialized units, SWAT, and
supervisors, and patrol.
***DISCLAIMER*** This class does not teach you to be an undercover officer. This is a
tactical/operations based class. UC or UC rescue experience is NOT necessary to attend.

Primary Instructor: Scott Chumbley has been in law enforcement for over 13 years, with most
of his career being spent in high operational tempo plain clothes/undercover units that have a
shared investigative and tactical function. Scott is currently a detective in the Organized Crime
Division of his large municipal department. He has also been a part-time member of his agency’s
full-time SWAT team for the past 7 years. Scott is on the Organized Crime Division’s training
cadre and is tasked with teaching the following courses to his department; Operations Planning,
Surveillance School, Undercover School, Organized Crime School, and Vehicle Based Tactics.
Scott actively plans, leads, and executes, these types of mobile threat operations for his team /
division daily.

Assistant Instructors: Dark Adaptation Consulting instructors are all active law enforcement
officers/detectives that work in large municipal departments, on high tempo teams that specialize
in undercover operations of every crime type (narcotics, human trafficking, firearms, etc.) or full
time SWAT team leaders. This allows us to bring you a collective knowledge that spans different
styles of operations, while providing current up to date tactics in line with local, state, and
federal law enforcement policies and expectations.
