The SWAT Team Leader is a critical member of the modern SWAT Team. This 5-day course will touch a wide range of topics; all focused on preparing the student to lead effectively. SWAT officers injured during operations or other operational failures appear directly linked to flawed risk assessments and improper valuations on the safety priorities scale rather than flaws in specific tactics. This course will focus on lessons learned from the Austin SWAT Team.
Topics covered during the course:
- How to effectively mitigate risk during operations
- Efficient decision-making processes that adhere to the safety priorities
- Effective working relationships and operational roles between team leaders and team commanders
- Defining the role of a SWAT Team Leader operationally and administratively
- Setting high team standards and a selection process that selects the right officer
- Maintaining a healthy team culture
- Development of an efficient training day
- Establishing react positions
- Operations planning
- Armored vehicle applications
- Trauma pit crew
*Note: All course material will be given to students for use with their agency, to include all TCOLE lesson plans.
