This course will help you become more proficient as a shield operator and instructor. This is a three-day course, and it provides instructors with the techniques and skills required to train their department's personnel while operating with a shield. Students will learn drills, shooting techniques, tactics for the shield officer, conduct scenario training, and become familiar with how the shield can be incorporated while working around vehicles.  

This course will help you create, implement, and help enhance your expertise in organizing and delivering effective shield instruction. Teach backs will be required during this course.

The first day of class will begin at 0800 hours at the Waco Police Department Firing Range.  The range is located at 7805 Steinbeck Bend Rd. Waco, Tx 76708.  The gate will be open and is off Monkey Run Rd.

Required Equipment:

·         Duty gear, tactical gear/armor, including helmet

·         Eye and Ear Protection

·         Ballistic shield (if you have one available)

·         Handgun and (3) three magazines

·         500 rounds of handgun ammunition

·         Pistol Light

·         Gas Mask/carrier

·         Simunition pistol with three mags (if your department has them)

·         100 rounds of Simunition

·         Laptop is not required but it may assist creating your presentation after hours.  One will be available in the classroom.

·         USB storage drive

Prerequisites:

Completion of the TCOLE Basic Instructor Course #1014 is required before enrollment.

You must register as a member for any TTPOA course ($30 for one-year individual membership)

Credit card payment is strongly recommended. Payment is due by May 1, 2027 or you may be removed.
