Course Details:

The TTPOA announces that we will conduct a six-day (60-hour) BASIC SWAT SCHOOL in the Pasadena, Texas area.  This school will be taught primarily by the Pasadena SWAT team. The training cadre consists of experienced and recognized SWAT trainers. 

 

Class will start at 0800hrs on Sunday (10/14/2012) at the Pasadena Range located at 6600 Genoa Red Bluff, Pasadena, Texas  77505. 

Students should show up for class in PT gear--bring clothes to change after.  You will be required to providetransportation for you and your gear in and around the Pasadena area.



 

 
Course Topics:

This class will focus on the basic understanding of SWAT operations, including: SWAT history, liability issues, physical fitness/wellness, SWAT equipment/weapons selection, intelligence gathering, rapid deployment/rapid rescue, barricaded persons, hazardous warrants, emotionally disturbed persons, vehicle assauls, less-than-lethal applications, noise-flash diversionary devices, and chemical agents. This class will require physical exertion and many hours of practical exercises.

Be prepared for intense physical exercises every morning of training that may require you to get wet and/or muddy.  Be prepared with enough pairs of BDU uniforms for the entire week, or be prepared to do
laundry.  Depending on your ability to keep your weapon off the ground during PT, your weapons may get wet and/or muddy, and you will need to clean them every night for an inspection in the morning.  If this is problem, don't sign up for the class.


 

 
Prerequisites

Students must be certified peace officers or active military personnel, in good standing with their agency. Students must be able to provide agency ID on the first day of class.

There will be a pass/fail physical assessment the morning of the first day of class. Students should show up for class in PT gear --bring clothes to change after.

Students failing the physical assessment will not be allowed to stay in the class. The PT test is the Cooper "Single Cut-Point" standard: 1.5 mile run in 16:28, 300 meter run in 1:11, 25 push-ups in 1 Minute, 29 sit-ups in 1 minute.

Throughout the week students will perform physical exercises as team members.  Failure to maintain pace with the rest of the group during PT will be grounds to be dismissed from the class.

 
Required Equipment

All normal tactical equipment including, BDU or other similar tactical uniform, PT clothing, body armor, load-bearing vest or web-gear, eye and ear protection, gas mask, handgun and shoulder fired weapon with sling (M16, AR-15, MP5) 400 rounds of handgun ammo, and 100 rounds of long gun ammo.  Weapon Cleaning gear. Please bring any Simunitions equipment that you have, simunition ammunition will be provided.

The fee for the course is $400 for TTPOA members and $450 for non-members.  Registration must be done on-line at http://www.ttpoa.org/  (Training Calendar).
