Course Details:
 

Richard McCusker: United States Marine Corps from 90-95.  Served in the Gulf War as a part of Task Force Ripper.  Served in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope.  Conducted numerous Waterborne operations in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Aiden.  Instructed Amphibious units in Helicopter and Rubber craft insertions into the water (Casting).  Attended and graduated Amphibious Reconnaissance School, Coronado, CA.  Attended S.E.R.E. School Camp Pendleton, CA, Full Instructor in Progressive Fighting Systems under Sifu Paul Vunak, Instructor student with Combat Submission Wrestling under Erik Paulson, Instructor for S.P.E.A.R. System under Coach Tony Blauer, TCLEOSE Instructor, FBI Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Less Lethal Munitions Instructor, ALERRT Instructor (Active Shooter).  I have been a police officer with the Houston Police Department since 1995 and assigned to the full time S.W.A.T. Detail from 2006 - 2011.    Graduated from Mountain State University with a B.S. in Business.

 
Course Topics:
 

Course Summary:  The operator will be challenged in one of the more difficult situations any operator may be involved in.  This course will challenge the operator's decision making skills, discipline, physical abilities and mind set while operating in an uncomfortable environment.  The operator will learn how to plan for any type of waterborne operation, he/she will understand the dynamics of a waterborne operation, equipment needed to successfully complete a waterborne operation, how to do a successful surface insertion with and without a rubber craft, learn proper techniques on how to climb a Jacobs ladder (hook ladder), and will know the difference in planning a dock-side takedown of a ship verse a ship that is underway, the operator will learn the importance of a shooter/trailer team while taking down a ship, the operator will understand the 3 areas of a ship that should be dominated quickly.

The course will begin promptly at 0800 hrs on Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 at the Houston Police Academy CLASSROOM  # TBD located at 17000 Aldine Westifield, Houston, TX 77073. All students must be present at this time.

 
Prerequisites
 

Due to the sensitive material covered in this course, all students must be either Active/Reserve Military or Law enforcement certified.  Students will be asked show proof of credentials on the first day of the course.

The fee for this Waterborne Operations Course is $150 ($175 non-TTPOA members).  Registration must be done on-line at http://www.ttpoa.org/ (Training Calendar).  Payment must be made by Monday, June 18, 2012, to secure a spot in the course.  Due to expenses that must be incurred by this date, there will be NO REFUNDS OR COURSE CREDITS AFTER THIS DATE.
